Maryland MGMA is very excited to offer a six-part Body of Knowledge boot camp series that will educate and help prepare our members to tackle the everyday challenges practice managers face. So no matter if your interest is preparing for the CMPE exam or just a thirst for the general knowledge to help you run a successful medical practice, this series is for you. 

Organizational governance in a medical practice consists of developing long-term strategies and the strategic direction of an organization. Organizational governance involves the ability to facilitate the corporate legal structure, define policy and define the organization’s culture.

Organizational governance performance objectives include:

Legal structure and governance

  • Discuss legal structures and their impact on organizations.
  • List and define organizational policies and procedures.
  • List and define the types of committees within a governance structure.
  • Illustrate and define board composition and procedural rules.

Corporate mission, vision and value statement implementation

  • Manage a non-patient accounts receivable.
  • Analyze and design a cash flow projection.

Mr. West is the Chief Executive Officer of Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates of Baltimore. Mr. West is a seasoned health care administrator with over 18 years of progressive leadership experience in both the hospital and physician practice settings. He is Board Certified in Health Care Management and is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. Mr. West holds a Master’s Degree in Management from the University of Maryland with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. He has expertise in physician/hospital relations, health care financial management, strategic planning, and service line development.
